I really enjoyed listening to this. What I'd love, Emma, is for Farrah to interview you! I'd love to know more about your creative process, how you manage to have Fridays off, and more about the nuts and bolts of running your Substack. I'm assuming you have a team? A team member? How do you make time for comments? Social media? Fitting in your writing? You mentioned before about paying for illustrations from Getty Images. Would love to know more about those kind of details. Would anyone else be interested in this too?
I really enjoyed listening to that Emma and Farrah. It felt like I was sat in the room with you having a cuppa and a chat. So much inspiration here. What a joy! 🧡
Really enjoyed this Emma. Fabulous to hear you in my ears again, and it truly feels like you're meeting a friend for a coffee, to the point where laughing/ nodding and answering aloud, kind of comes naturally expressed. A good sign of being lost in conversation as opposed to "content-fire". Currently listening when on holiday, with my now 3 year old Hyphen bookmark wedged into some fiction! Full circle. Great audio ❤️
I've just started reading The Luminous Solution by Charlotte Wood, and it's all about the creative process, writing, making arts, and cultivating a rich inner life. Both these conversations made me think to mention.
What a lovely listen for my Monday walk! I really enjoyed hearing about how both you and Farrah have pivoted in your careers and found a place where you feel most yourself now, here on Substack. Thank you for sharing this conversation, Emma!
I so enjoyed listening to the two of you natter in real life for this recording! Yes to more women getting in their gardens- it really is the key to quieter minds, lower stress levels and the antidote to burnout 🌱 💓
Thank you Emma and Farrah for the intelligent conversation and for sticking to the topic. The back stories about Substack felt honest and I appreciate your observations about writers who have grown wiser with age and provide life lessons and topics that they are interested in. It was refreshing to stop talking about algorithms and showing the transformations from magazine publishing prior to digital to the Substack writing today. My favorite line was the part about I'm back in the office where I used to be famous and taking ownership of the changes and what that means for new connections with new readers who never knew me when I was famous and creating magazines. That's happening for me, right now.
Really enjoyed this conversation & your combined insight into the creative process. I was fascinated by the discomfort of putting yourself out there / on the page versus the comfort of finding your voice & community.
I left my position as a magazine editor in part because of the market and trends, etc you reflected on in the podcast ... I had imagined that Substack could feel like a personal magazine and was thrilled by your discussion about it.
It was such an inspiring, engaging and enlightening experience attending the recording of the first episode. It’s been so lovely listening to it again, can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series.

That's a great idea! I might crowdsource some questions and do that - thank you!
Looking forward to it!
